NFC technology mobile payments royal bank of canada (RBC)RBC and Bell intend to work together to launch a new secure solution across the country.

The largest bank in Canada, RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) and Bell, the largest communications company in the country, have announced their partnership to start to provide efficient and secure mobile payments for using credit and debit to make purchases in participating stores throughout the nation.

This announcement was for the upcoming availability of a service that they are calling secure, fast, and easy.

The mobile payments service will be available to RBC debit or credit customers who have a Bell Mobility smartphone that is compatible with the service. According to the group head of personal and commercial banking at the Royal Bank of Canada, Dave McKay, “RBC is excited to team up with Bell to provide our mutual clients with an integrated mobile solution for debit and credit payments.”

Though this is not the first major launch of mobile payments in the country, it is a first for RBC.

McKay went on to say that “This is the first piece of a broad RBC mobile commerce solution rolling out to clients this year, all delivering the great, robust user experience and the security that RBC is known for.”

This new mobile payments service will integrate seamlessly into the existing application for the bank. It will appear in an upcoming version as an additional option for customers to use from the home screen of the app. The companies claim that when this is combined with the peer to peer solution already available from RBC, it presents a simpler way for the bank’s customers to send money to banks and businesses in the country.

By the close of 2013, Bell Mobility and RBC customers will have the mobile payments service available for them to use with Royal Bank credit or debit cards. The service will be compatible for Bell Mobility customers using Android devices from several different manufacturers (including Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony, and others), as well as the BlackBerry (Z10, Q10, Bold 9900, Bold 9790, and Curve 9360).

It is expected that the two companies will be making the mobile payments service widely available before the end of this year.
